Thank you to everyone who shared comments and ideas during the creation of the Red Deer Regional Airport Area Structure! Please check back for an upcoming Informational Session date.
Red Deer County and the City of Red Deer have selected Stantec Consulting to assist in the development of an Area Structure Plan which will guide future development and growth of the Red Deer Regional Airport lands. The Municipalities have recognized that the successful growth of the Airport will require an in depth review of land use, transportation requirements, servicing requirements, and development strategies.
The Red Deer Regional Airport (RDRA) is located south of the City of Red Deer on Highway 2A, adjacent to the Hamlet of Springbrook. Constructed during World War II as a training facility for the Allied Forces, the site for the Airport was selected due to its optimum flying weather and its wide open skies. The RDRA is now operated by the Red Deer Regional Airport Authority whose board of directors is appointed by both Red Deer County and the City of Red Deer.
Through the planning and public consultation process, a vision will be created to achieve the goals as identified:
- Promote the airport for scheduled airline service.
- Develop lands to encourage aviation-related and ancillary business to locate at the Airport.
- Promote economic growth by targeting appropriate commercial and light industrial businesses.
- Provide the ability to service land to create synergistic services.
- Promote the RDRA as a cargo/courier centre.
- Promote community involvement in the Airport activities.
Please check back for updates and information throughout this process. We will be constantly updating this page with draft concepts, draft plans, public and stakeholder feedback, and schedules to keep you informed as the project moves forward. We look forward to your participation throughout this process.
